Description

A comprehensive introduction to our volcano and its trails through a half-day hike, for a deep understanding about geology, eruptive processes, botanics, and local culture.

For travelers who wish to discover narrow trails, endemic vegetation, and hidden gems at mid-altitude on Etna’s pristine slopes, this trek allows us to explore several lateral craters and cold lava flows from both recent and ancient eruptions. We will cover altitudes between 1800m and 2100m on foot, far from the beaten tracks and tourist itineraries.

Difficulty level

Very easy

These are tours that do not involve significant physical activity and are suitable for families with very young children and people with walking limitations.

Easy-Intermediate

Hikes can be taken by most people in good health, families with active lifestyles and by children who are used to the outdoors.

Intermediate

Trails are best suited for people who are in good physical conditions and fit, with some hiking experience and who can handle higher altitudes.

Hard

Trails are dedicated to people with a high fitness level that have done similar hikes before and who can handle long ascents, high altitude and prolonged exercise.

Equipment

Required equipment: Hiking shoes (also rental), 1L water, snowshoes (winter only, €12)

Suggested equipment: Long pants, backpack, rain/wind jacket (also rental), sweatshirt and gloves (cold season), poles (optional, provided), hat, sunscreen, snack.

Further information

Our hikes and tours start from meeting points that can be comfortably reached by road. The meeting times and locations are different with different tour options and throughout the year. These will be confirmed when booking each hike.

All the hikes that reach middle or high altitude and the active craters can be limited by volcanic activity, temporary restrictions, harsh weather, snow/ice coverage or other major inconveniences. Instead, if the hike or tour is cancelled by the partecipant, our cancellation policy is the following:

No fee until 48 hours before the trip
50% cancellation fee until 24 hours before the trip
100% cancellation fee on the day of the trip

Participants must follow all instructions provided before and during the excursion by the guide(s). Any action different from these will be excluded from insurance coverage.
