This is the ultimate exploration of the middle and middle-high altitudes below the summit area, which contain the most diverse and always changing volcanic scenery. Designed specifically with hikers and sustainability in mind, this journey will make you range across a great variety of terrains, routes and landscapes typical of Etna.
By gaining altitude and covering distance far into the wildest trails of the volcano, we will walk through pyroclastic craters, large lava fields, forests, grasslands and the most beautiful lava-created caves, all in only one hike.

Required equipment: Hiking boots (can be rented), helmets (provided), 1,5-2L water
Recommended equipment: Long trousers, backpack, wind/rain jacket (can be rented), fleece and gloves (cold season only), hiking sticks (optional, provided), cap, sunscreen, packed lunch
Meeting point
Piano Provenzana (Etna Nord): It can be reached from the Mareneve regional road from Fornazzo (eastern side) and from Linguaglossa (north-eastern side). It is a well-paved, two-lane tourist road that can be traveled by any means of transport. At the meeting point there is a large paid car park (€3 for the whole day) with a bar, toilets and catering available.
Rifugio Citelli (Eastern Etna): It can be reached from the Mareneve regional road both from Fornazzo (eastern side) and from Linguaglossa (north-eastern side). It is a well-paved, two-lane tourist road that can be traveled by any means of transport. When the refuge is open, catering, toilets and overnight accommodation are available
Further information
Our hikes and tours start from meeting points that can be comfortably reached by road. The meeting times and locations are different with different tour options and throughout the year. These will be confirmed when booking each hike.
All the hikes that reach middle or high altitude and the active craters can be limited by volcanic activity, temporary restrictions, harsh weather, snow/ice coverage or other major inconveniences. Instead, if the hike or tour is cancelled by the partecipant, our cancellation policy is the following:
No fee until 48 hours before the trip
50% cancellation fee until 24 hours before the trip
100% cancellation fee on the day of the trip
Participants must follow all instructions provided before and during the excursion by the guide(s). Any action different from these will be excluded from insurance coverage.
